My top fashion picks from Amazon

Like a lot of other people, I shop a lot from Amazon for pretty much everything from household supplies to kitchen essentials to home decor to accessories to gifts. Having a prime account has been such a blessing for us. The one thing, though, that I could have never imagined shopping for on Amazon is clothes. I don’t think I had ever considered this retail giant to be a place where I could shop for clothes. I also never thought that they could have trendy fashion, given that there are so many fashion giants out there that do it much better. However, Amazon Fashion has really picked up quite well in the last few years and I have to admit that I have lately shopped a lot from Amazon Fashion. And in this blog, I’ll be sharing some of my top fashion picks from Amazon.

It’s not just the convenience, ease of ordering and fast delivery, but also the quality and trendiness of the pieces they carry that has changed my whole perception. While some other big fashion retailers like Shein, ASOS, Revolve etc. carry much better trends and variety, their shipping can take much longer than Prime. And that’s how I discovered all the good stuff on Amazon Fashion. Some of my last minute buys have been from here and I have not regretted. I stumbled upon some great pieces including tops, skirts, two piece sets, accessories etc. Don’t believe me? Keep scrolling to see some of my top fashion picks from Amazon.

Outfit ideas for a trip to Paris and Switzerland

Bonjour! I just got back from a 10-day trip to France and Switzerland, and oh my! I am having major vacation withdrawals. My experience was so much more than what I had pictured. While Paris was an architectural masterpiece, Switzerland offered breathtaking scenic beauty. So, it was a perfect mix of everything. I feel like I am mentally still there and I just keep staring at all the pictures and videos we brought back with us from this amazing trip.

As much as I was excited for this trip, I was equally excited to plan all my looks. In fact, I had started planning the outfits in my head as soon as we booked our tickets. After all, it’s the fashion capital of the world. So how could I not be prepared! And if you know me a little bit now, you’ll know that I am a fairly organized person when it comes to planning and packing for a trip. So, I wanted to make sure that not only was I able to plan my outfits ahead of time depending on the itinerary, location, weather etc. but also able to keep my luggage under two bags while leaving some room to bring back some treasures. I did some research online to get some outfit ideas for this trip.

Because we visited in July, the weather was mostly warm. We got lucky in that there was barely a rainy day. But we still packed rain jackets and umbrellas, just in case. I mostly packed all my summer clothes, except for the one day where we planned to do a Glacier tour in Switzerland. To be honest, I did some research as well on how french women typically dress up as I really didn’t want to look out of place. French style is a lot about neutral tones like white, gray, beige and black. And it’s more about keeping it casual yet effortlessly classic and chic. So, my goal was to pack clothes that were comfortable, stylish and suitable for the warm weather. Also, I carried just only one pair of heels with me.

And before I jump into what I wore on this 10-day trip, I wanted to share a few interesting fashion trends I observed in the city. The most notable trends that stood out to me because I saw them on a lot of women were long denim skirts, blazers and tweed jackets. And honestly, I just love how effortlessly French women are able to carry themselves. I saw many women that were dressed pretty casually (think blazers and sneakers), yet looked so stylish.

Ok, enough about all that! Now, let me jump straight into all the outfits I wore on my recent trip to Paris and Switzerland. Hope this gives you some great outfit ideas for that next trip!

DAY 1

Day 1 was planned as an architectural tour. We decided to go see Notre Dam, Sainte-Chapelle church, Clock tower and then just stroll through the beautiful riverwalk. I wore this gorgeous yellow satin maxi dress from Banana Republic. The color and fit are so stunning and it’s just the perfect comfortable dress for a day tour. I got lucky because this was the last piece left in my size in the store and I am so glad I grabbed it. I paired this with a layered pearl necklace and pearl earrings from Shein.

Dress // Pearl necklace // Pearl earrings // Sandals

DAY 2

Day 2 was booked for a tour of the Louvre Museum. So, I picked this chic beige vest and trousers set from Forever 21. Vests have been a huge fashion trend this year and they’re just so multifunctional. You could wear it as part of a summer suit like I wore it or as standalone tops. Also, the neutral tone here had such a classic feel to me. Those are the reasons why I picked this outfit. I accessorized the suit with golden hoop earrings and a gorgeous pair of white Gucci sunglasses with a gold chain strap. These have, honestly, been one of my favorite recent buys and I love ‘em so much! I also wore my favorite pair of Gucci flats to keep it more comfortable.

Vest set // Neck scarf // Sunglasses (similar) // Sandals // Earrings

DAY 3

On our third day here, we had an Eiffel tower tour booked for the first half. This was the most awaited part of the trip because Eiffel is a dream! We also budgeted some time to do a photoshoot, for which I picked this absolutely stunning floral tube gown from Lulus. I’ve honestly had this gown for more than a year now but never found the perfect occasion to wear it until this photoshoot at the Eiffel. I accessorized my look with a cute purple flower choker from Shein. Ooh, I also wore my favorite berry shade lipstick from Huda Beauty to finish the look.

Gown // Floral choker // Lipstick

On the same day, we decided to take a tour of the Palace of Versailles in the second half. And holy gorgeousness, that place is out of this world! Read my blog here for a travel guide for this place. I decided to wear this very cute fur top from an Indian designer called Zabella. And paired it with white trousers from ASOS and wore a pair of flat comfortable sandals as I knew this trip would involve a lot of walking. Also, I took my favorite white sunnies to complete the look.

Top // Trousers // Sandals // Bag // Earrings

DAY 4

Our fourth day was about exploring the most iconic and posh neighborhoods of Paris. We also had plans to visit the Paris Opera and then head to the very famous Galeries Lafayette mall for some shopping. And, I decided to wear the look that’s been inspired by the Netflix series called Emily in Paris. If you’ve watched this series, then you’ll know that this show was an epitome of all things fashion. So, I really wanted to draw inspiration from one of my favorite looks of Emily in Season 1 i.e. gingham check blazer and shorts set. I browsed many online stores and came across this very trendy blazer set on AliExpress. I had never tried this site before so I was a bit nervous but I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised. The packaging, quality, fit and colors were just so amazing that it was totally worth it.

I paired the look with white sneakers to keep it comfortable and a black Gucci crossbody bag.

Blazer set // Sneakers // Earrings // Bag

DAY 5

Final day was exploring the beautiful city of Annecy in France. I definitely wanted to wear polka dots on one of the days and this was the day. So, I wore this very stylish balloon sleeves organza shirt. I instantly fell in love with this shirt when I saw it for the first time because of its dramatic sleeves, print, style and colors. Although, I was a little worried about the see through aspect but the shirt fabric is nice and protective so it doesn’t look cheap. I paired it with a black knee length skirt and a beautiful pair of black earrings.

Shirt // Earrings // Sandals

DAY 6-7

The next two days were about exploring Switzerland and the weather was beautiful. So, I decided to keep it casual and wear these floral dresses that I picked up on my recent Zara haul. I teamed these up with funky sunnies in some cool colors. Don’t these dresses just scream summer vacay to you?

Blue floral dress // Green floral dress // Blue sunnies

DAY 8

The second last day was about Glacier exploration. And because it was going to be a cold day, we planned to carry a warm set of clothes. So I paired this peppy orange turtleneck sweater from H&M with a pair of black thermal leggings from Amazon Fashion and Brown boots from Timberland. I also carried my North Face jacket which was a perfect outer layer for -18 degrees weather.

Sweater // Leggings // Boots

DAY 9

And, finally, on the last day which was all about exploring the beautiful town of Lucerne, I decided to wear this very uniquely styled tube top in honey color from Zabella. I’ve always loved trying unique and intricate styles and this top was something that I wanted ever since I saw it because it’s just so stylish. I paired it with black high waist pants from Zara.

Top // Pants

I hope this post gave you some outfit ideas and helped you in planning your looks for your next vacation. Let me know your favorite look in the comments below!

Top 10 makeup products that are worth having!

I am going to be honest and tell you that my relationship with makeup isn’t too old. That’s partly because I got introduced to it a little later in life and partly because my focus has been more heavily towards skin care. I believe that a healthy looking skin doesn’t need too much makeup application and thats what I have been aiming for. Not to say that you need makeup to hide your skin flaws. That, absolutely, should not be the purpose of it. Makeup, in my opinion, is a very personal choice and a great reflection of your personality. It makes you look and feel confident.

Over the past couple of years, I’ve received a lot of good and bad feedback on my makeup. Some of it made sense but some didn’t because I don’t really think there’s a rule book to follow. Of course, there’s a set of steps and some important things to keep in mind. But, it should be a personal choice and should be open to experimentation. And experimentation is what I have been doing over the last couple of years. Not just with makeup products, but also with the different styles of makeup. And, I have realized that a no-makeup or soft glam look is what works best for me. Because, I really like to keep it pretty natural looking.

And my experimentation with makeup products has helped me find just the right kinds of products that help me achieve this natural looking or minimalistic look. Here’s 10 of my favorites that I’d like to share with you.

1. The FaceShop Pomegranate and Collagen Volume Lifting Cream || $33.25 on Amazon

I came across this cream on Instagram and it was recommended by one of the makeup influencers I follow. This cream has an amazing texture and it has such a dewy effect on the skin. It works great as a primer and two layers of this cream will not only give you a very glass looking finish but also bind your makeup so well that you can easily go without a touch up for straight 12 hours. Believe me, because I have done that!

2. Fenty Beauty Pro Filt’r Hydrating Primer || $36 on Sephora

I have been loving Fenty Beauty products ever since I’ve started using them. I have tried concealers, bronzers and primers by this brand and I just love all the products I have tried so far. Their Pro Filt’r hydrating primer is my recent favorite. Because I have an oily skin, I don’t like creams and primers with a very heavy texture. This primer has a very light creamy texture and as soon as you apply it, your skin will feel very hydrated. It also has a great soft glow that looks perfect under makeup. This primer also works well to keep the makeup in place. Its a great hydrating primer for oily skin in my opinion.

3. Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Flawless Filter || $49 on Ulta

This product is a bit on the expensive side but if you like an illuminating effect then this one is for you. I recently bought this in the mini size and have used it at least 3 times and I am just loving it. This product can be applied as a base before your foundation or over your foundation. I use it before my foundation and after my primer, only on the high points of my face. And once I top it off with foundation, I can really see a perfect glow on my cheekbones and nose. You don’t need a lot of it so a little goes a long way but if you’ve been wanting to get a glowy makeup look, you can give this product a try. I got this in the shade 3 Fair.

4. L.A. Girl HD Pro Concealer || $5.49 on Ulta

This concealer has a great coverage and longevity. It feels very natural upon application and certainly gives a brightening effect. I don’t use any other concealer when I am using this product. My shade is Pure Beige.

5. Maybelline Fit Me Foundation | $6.94 on Amazon

Perhaps one of my best drugstore buys. I’ve always loved Maybelline as a brand so I wanted to give this foundation a try. I had been looking for a more soft coverage and light weight foundation that I could use every day. This one just fit the bill because its not only soft and light, it also gives such a natural yet flawless look. Whats even better is that it works perfectly on oily skin like mine! Below is what it looks like, after being mixed the Farsali serum. I use the shade Nude Beige.

6. Estée Lauder Double Wear Stay-in-Place Foundation | $49 on Sephora

If you’re looking for a more medium to full coverage, then Estée Lauder has one of the best foundations. It comes in a variety of shades and gives an amazing coverage in just one layer. I use this mostly when I am going out and need a perfect coverage. I use the shade 3W1 Tawny.

7. Huda Beauty Setting Powder | $38 on Sephora

I don’t always use a baking powder but if I am doing heavy makeup or applying multiple layers, I think its necessary to bake it well so that it stays in place. And for setting powder, the one brand I trust the most is Huda Beauty. Their baking powders are light weight and come with a cute little sponge to make the application easy. The powder holds the makeup perfectly for hours. I use it in the shade Banana Bread.

8. Huda Beauty Empowered Eye Shadow Palette | $69 on Sephora

I am a sucker for a good eye shadow palette. Eye shadows are always part of my look because no matter how natural looking makeup you do, a nice eye shadow will always accentuate your look without making it look too over the top. My constant favorite has been the Empowered Palette from Huda Beauty. What I like the most about this palette is that it has a variety of gorgeous colors, some of which are cream based so they blend and settle well on the lids. This is one of my favorite makeup products.

Huda beauty makeup products

9. Fenty Beauty Bronzer | $35 on Sephora

I recently started using this one and I absolutely love this bronzer. I really like the texture and how well it settles on my skin. I use it in the shade Caramel Cutie.

10. Anastasia Glow Kit | $40 at Sephora

This highlighter kit is absolutely stunning. With four different shades, it can be also used as a bronzer with the dark shades. Can also be used as an eye shadow so its really a multipurpose palette. I have used the Moonstone shade in the below picture.

I can’t wait to share some of my favorite lipsticks as well with you all but that’s for another day. Leaving you with some pictures of my finished makeup look!

Post-pandemic photo shoot outfit ideas

Post-pandemic photo shoot outfit

I don’t think any of us needs a reminder of how different the year when covid hit us all felt. The world was at a standstill and nothing was even remotely normal. I have to be honest though, that in the beginning when we went into a lock down, I kind of enjoyed it. Of course, it was all very serious in terms of the health situation around the world and many people that I personally knew were getting infected. So it was a grim situation and all that mattered during that tough time was that my family and friends were safe.

Thankfully, I was living with my husband so I wasn’t completely alone or else that would have driven me crazy. Some of my friends and family were in that situation and god only knows how they survived the solitary confinement. And fortunately, our jobs allowed us to work from home and keep ourselves busy to help us from losing our sanity. It was very sad to see many people around us losing their jobs and pay. So we were really counting our blessings every single day.

The beginning part of the lockdown felt good because it gave me a chance to take life at a much slower pace. No more waking up early in the morning, no more driving to work and getting stuck in horrible traffic, no more waiting for the weekend to run errands and get things done, and so on. I now had a lot more time to do things that I’d normally push to the weekends. In fact, I had so much time that I actually got back to reading, for which I normally would get very little time given my busy work schedule. I also picked up a hobby or two, and became more regular on Instagram. I cannot tell you how many recipes we’ve tried and how many board games we’ve played during that period. But at the end of it all, there was still an emptiness as a result of not being able to have a fun social life, dress up and go out, meet up with family and friends, travel etc.

Eventually, this standstill caught up with me and I started feeling mentally low. And just when I thought this was going to be our new normal, things started opening back up slowly. The lockdown lifted and while travel was still not open, we were allowed to at least step out of our houses in masks. That’s when I got this idea of getting a photoshoot. I had been actively following a few photographers in my area on Instagram and I thought that it would be so fun to dress up again after all this while and get some real shoots done. It would be a perfect way to satisfy my longing urge to dress up and also help generate some great content for my Instagram. I think you all know by now that I just love dressing up and fashion is my therapy. So believe me when I say that it was really HARD not being able to dress up and go out this whole time.

And that’s why these photo shoots felt like a blessing and helped me come out of my little cocoon where I was stuck all this while. The exciting part of it all was throwing together some outfits from my closet to curate these looks. And so, here I am sharing all my shoot looks and the links to these outfits. Hope you guys enjoy these outfits!

Affordable outfits for a trip to Mexico

I’ve always been somewhat of a planner when it comes to traveling. I always make sure there’s an itinerary in place and there’s nothing that’s more last minute. Having said that, it’s not like I always pack my vacations with lots of things to do but I like more organized trips. And that organization also involves planning my outfits so that I don’t have to be running around and pulling my hair at the very last minute. I really enjoy the process of planning and compiling my looks well in advance because that also ensures that I am not over-packing.

I recently visited Cancun and Tulum in Mexico and because it was super hot, I mostly packed all my summer clothes and a few bikinis. There’s not one specific place that I usually buy my outfits from but if I have to give you my top picks then they’re going to be Zara, Asos, Revolve and Saks because I just love the quality and style of their clothes. However, I have also been a fan of Shein for many years. While I know some people around me haven’t had a great experience, somehow I have always bought stuff that comes in great shape and quality. I am also a sucker for jewelry so most of my earrings, rings and necklaces that you’ll see are from Shein because they’re so cheap and trendy.

But, before I share all the affordable outfits I wore in Mexico, I want to address a few important questions that may come to your mind as you plan outfits for the trip,

How should you dress in Mexico as a woman?

Both Cancun and Tulum are pretty laid back towns so you really don’t have to worry much about packing your outfits. However, depending on the weather you go in and the plan, you can decide what to pack. We mostly hung out in the hotel zones in Cancun and Tulum that are very safe for tourists so I didn’t really have to worry about how to dress as a woman. But, if you have plans to head to places outside of these two towns, then I suggest you read more on other blogs and pack accordingly. Below are a few examples of what you can pack based on the different settings,

  • Beach/Pool/Cenote – Swim suits, cover ups, water slippers, flip flops, towels, wet wipes, tote bag or a beach bag, beach mat, swim shorts and bikini tops
  • Day trips – Sun hats, sunglasses, sunscreen, scarf, maxi dress, rompers, shorts, light jacket, shoes, after sun aloe vera gel, small crossbody bags, linen t-shirts
  • Dinners/Drinks/Clubs– Dresses, sandals, jewelry, clutch
  • Brunches – Cute floral dresses, maxi dresses, floral skirts, printed pants

How should you dress in an all-inclusive resort?

Most tourists in the resorts come here to relax and have a great time. So, you really won’t see many people dressed up or dressed more formally. The attire for hanging out in a resort is mostly maxi dresses, casual beach and resort wear, swim suit with cover ups and flip flops, t-shirts and shorts. But, if you’re feeling like dressing up its totally up to you. I have an outfit idea listed in this blog for when you want to relax at the resort.

How should you dress for a night club in Mexico?

The nightclubs in Mexico, specifically in places like Cancun and Tulum, are pretty safe. We mostly explored the night life in the hotel zones in Cancun and Tulum and I felt very comfortable in short dresses. In fact, I saw many girls wearing short dresses, crop tops and pants, coord sets or mini skirts. So feel free to dress up for your night out. I have an outfit idea listed in this blog for a night out.

What not to pack?

There’s a few things you may want to avoid packing to save yourself some space in the bag for other more essential things.

  • Heels – First thing that you will absolutely not need is a pair of heels. Most of your trip will be about day excursions and water activities. Even if you plan to head to a club in the night, I wouldn’t recommend wearing heels because the clubs are always very crowded so you won’t even have much space to stand. And since you’ll be standing/dancing in the club for hours, its better to wear flats. But again, totally up to you!
  • Tight Jeans– I also did not pack any tight jeans or pants. I knew that the weather was going to be really hot and humid so I didn’t really want to wear anything tight. Instead, I carried some high waist loose fit trousers to make the look stylish yet comfortable. I have linked a pair of nice white trousers in this blog below.
  • Expensive Jewelry – I didn’t pack a lot of jewelry, specially expensive or branded jewelry. I just took with me a few pair of earrings and rings but that was about it.
  • Designer bags – I didn’t pack any of my luxury handbags. I just took a beach bag, a regular tote and a small crossbody bag because I didn’t want to grab too much attention. Always remember that you can leave behind anything that’s fancy because you don’t want to look too flashy.

Now, let me jump straight into all the outfits I wore on the 5 days that we were there. Hoping that this can give you some affordable outfit ideas for your tropical vacation.

DAY AT THE RESORT

Our first day was mostly spent relaxing at our beautiful resort. We took a dip in the pool and then just hung out by the bar for a few drinks. And in the evening, we went out for a stroll around the property so I took this gorgeous neon coord set from Micas. If you haven’t already checked this site out, I urge you to do so. They have such trendy and stylish collections and it’s all so affordable. The blue earrings I am wearing here are from Forever 21.

CHICHEN ITZA DAY

Day 2 was an exploration day and we headed out to Chichen Itza. It was extremely hot so I packed a beautiful white tiered maxi dress from Myntra. This maxi dress was a perfect way to wear something light and summery. And because of its length, it also gave me complete protection from the scorching heat. Plus, it made for a perfect picture in front of the beautiful Chichen Itza as you can see below. Isn’t it just so beautiful and flowy? Plus, its so affordable at only $10.

SHOP THIS WHITE TIERED MAXI DRESS HERE || $10

COZUMEL ISLAND DAY

On our third day here, we decided to explore the beautiful island of Cozumel. I didn’t really have any water activities planned and it was mostly just about exploring the island on a scooter. So I picked this very cute and affordable co ord set from Amazon.

SHOP THIS SET HERE || $34.99

NIGHT OUT

On the same day, we decided to hit the nightclubs in the evening after dinner so I took with me this very sexy off shoulder ruched dress from Shein. The earrings I paired with this dress are also from Shein.

SHOP THIS RUCHED DRESS HERE || $24.49

EXPLORING TULUM DOWNTOWN

Our fourth day was about driving to the town of Tulum and checking out the downtown. We had plans to eat at a nice restaurant and then hit a few bars for drinks. So I wore this shimmery ruffle off shoulder top from Shein and paired it with high waisted white trousers from Asos. The gold earrings here are from shein as well.

SHOP THIS RUFFLE TOP HERE || $12.75

EXPLORING TULUM

Final day was all about exploring the cute town of Tulum. There’s something known as the hotel zone in Tulum which is a very bustling part of this town. This street is filled with dreamy resorts and cute restaurants. There’s also some very nice architecture in this area. So, I decided to wear this very gorgeous floral maxi dress from Farm Rio. I instantly fell in love with this dress when I saw it for the first time because of its cut, print, fit and colors.

I hope you liked my affordable outfits and this post helped you in planning your looks for your next vacation. Let me know your thoughts in the comments below!
